1940年代から1980年代まで、米国南西部のナバホ先住民居留地ではウラン採掘が行われており、80年経った今も、残された鉱山や核廃棄物によってコミュニティや生態系は汚染され続けています。
2025年にアメリカで公開された映画『ウェイズ・オブ・ノウイング–ナバホの核の歴史』は、このような核の歴史よりはるか昔からこの場所を故郷とみなしてきた先住民国家ナバホ（ディネ）が、どのように土地とコミュニティの関係性を回復しながら、環境的トラウマに対処しているのかを映し出すドキュメンタリープロジェクトです。

広島での上映に続き東京では、映画のエグゼクティブプロデューサーでありナバホの長老であり語り部であるサニー・ドゥーリー、プロデューサーであり脚本を執筆したBombshelltoe Policy x Arts Collective創設者、作家・核政策研究者のラブリー・ウマヤムを招いての上映会とトークイベントを開催します。

渡邉英徳（東京大学情報学環教授）と小林エリカ（作家・アーティスト）を交えてのクロストークも予定しています。

From the 1940s through the 1980s, uranium mining took place across the Navajo Nation in the American Southwest. Eighty years later, the abandoned mines and lingering radioactive waste continue to contaminate the community and its ecosystems.

Released in the United States in 2025, Ways of Knowing : A Navajo Nuclear History is a documentary project that explores how the Diné (Navajo Nation)—whose ancestral connection to this land long predates the nuclear era—are working to heal their relationship with the land and community while confronting environmental trauma.

Following its premiere screening in Hiroshima, the Tokyo event will feature a film screening and talk with two special guests: Sunny Dooley, Navajo elder, storyteller, and executive producer of the film, and Lovely Umayam, writer, nuclear policy researcher, and founder of Bombshelltoe Policy x Arts Collective, who produced and co-wrote the film.

 

We are also planning a cross talk with Hidenori Watanave (Professor, Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, The University of Tokyo) and Erika Kobayashi (writer and artist).
