Paolo Granata氏はトロント大学セント・マイケルズ・カレッジの准教授である。メディア・エコロジー研究の第一人者であり、母校であるボローニャ大学の数世紀にわたる伝統に育まれた彼の研究および教育の関心は、メディア倫理、記号論、印刷文化、視覚研究といった分野に広くまたがっている。2011年以来、彼はトロント大学のマーシャル・マクルーハン・センテナリーのフェローを務めている。詳細はこちら：www.paologranata.it

20世紀で最も影響力のある思想家の一人、マーシャル・マクルーハンの視点を通じて、イノベーションと創造性が出会う特別なイベントに参加しよう。

トロント大学のPaolo Granata准教授が、「The Medium」というボードゲームを紹介する。このゲームでは、「マクルーハン・テトラッド」としても知られるマクルーハンの『メディアの法則』を利用して、プレイヤーが技術革新の本質と影響の解読するように促す。『メディアの法則』のフレームワークは、あらゆるメディア、技術、または人間のイノベーションを分析するための批判的な視点を提供し、人間と技術のエコシステム内での役割と効果についての洞察を与える。

イベントでは、まずGranata准教授がこの教育的なボードゲームを設計する際の開発方法とその過程についての詳しいプレゼンテーションを行う。その後、イベント参加者が実際にゲームに参加する時間が設けられる。この実践的な体験を通じて、参加者は技術的影響の隠れたパターンを発見し、人間のイノベーションにおける意図された結果や意図せざる結果を認識できることが期待される。

Paolo Granata is an Associate Professor at St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto.

As a leading expert in media ecology – nurtured by the centuries-old tradition of his Alma Mater, the University of Bologna – his research and teaching interests lie broadly in the areas of media ethics, semiotics, print culture, and visual studies. Since 2011, he has been a Marshall McLuhan Centenary Fellow at the University of Toronto.

Join us for a special event where innovation meets creativity through the lens of one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century, Marshall McLuhan.

Paolo Granata, a Professor at the University of Toronto, will present “The Medium”, a boardgame that challenges players to decode the essence and impact of technological innovation using McLuhan’s Laws of Media, also known as the McLuhan Tetrad. This framework offers a critical lens to analyze any medium, technology, or human innovation, providing insights into its role and effects within the human-technology ecosystem.

During the event, Professor Granata will give an insightful presentation on the development method and process behind designing this educational board game. Participants will then have the chance to engage with the game. This hands-on experience encourages participants to uncover hidden patterns of technological influence and recognize the intended and unintended consequences of human innovation.
