2025年11月26日(水)、ブルガリアソフィア大学・GATE研究所にて、東京大学大学院情報学環ユビキタス情報社会基盤研究センターとブルガリアソフィア大学・GATE研究所は、AIを活用したデータスペースとスマートシティに関する研究推進に関する包括的な協力覚書（MOU）を締結しました。
調印式には、ソフィア大学のレネタ・ボヤンコヴァ副学長、駐日ブルガリア共和国大使のマリエタ・アラバジエヴァ氏、駐日ブルガリア共和国大使館の代表者が出席し、越塚 登 東京大学大学院情報学環教授・ユビキタス情報社会基盤研究センター長と、シルビア・イリエヴァGATE Institute所長が署名しました。
本覚書は、AIを活用したデータ空間、ビッグデータ、スマートシティ、人間中心の技術、デジタルツイン、先進モビリティなどの分野における共同プロジェクトの新たな機会を開くものであり、学術交流を加速させることが目的です。科学の卓越性の向上と欧州とアジア間の国際協力の促進に向けた両機関のコミットメントを反映しています。
今後は、共同研究、セミナー、教育プログラムを通じて協力関係を構築し、世界のAIを活用したデータスペース分野をリードしてくことが期待されています。

On Wednesday, November 27, 2025, the Institute of Infrastructure Application of Ubiquitous Computing (IIAUC), Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies, The University of Tokyo is honoured to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Big Data for Smart Society Institute (GATE), The Sofia University in Bulgaria.
At the signing ceremony, Vice Rector Prof. Reneta Prof. Bozhankova of Sofia University in Bulgaria, Her Excellency H.E. Ms. Marieta Arabadjieva, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Japan, and representatives from the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Japan were in attendance. The memorandum was signed by Prof. Noboru Koshizuka, Director of the IIAUC, the University of Tokyo, and Prof. Sylvia Ilieva, Director of the GATE Institute, the Sofia University.
The MoU establishes a strategic framework for collaboration in areas of shared significance, including AI-enabled data spaces, smart and sustainable cities, human-centered technologies, digital twins and smart mobility. It reflects the commitment of both institutions to advancing scientific excellence and fostering international cooperation between Europe and Asia.
Going forward, the two institutions are expected to build a strong collaborative relationship through joint research, seminars, and educational programs, and to lead the global field of AI-driven data spaces.
