東京大学大学院情報学環ユビキタス情報社会基盤研究センター（センター長：大学院情報学環教授　越塚登）とアル・マディーナ地域開発局（サウジアラビア国）は、スマートシティやデータサイエンス、空間情報システムなど複数の分野での研究及び調査に関してMOUを締結しました。

同研究センターでは、Ubiquitous Computingに関する世界最高の教育・研究拠点の中核を担うことを目的とし、Ubiquitous Computingを活用し、それを社会基盤化するために必要な技術や社会制度などを包括的に研究し、それを実社会に適用することによって、国内だけでなく、世界で顕在化している様々な社会問題の解決に向けて取り組んできました。

今回の取り組みを通じて、メッカに次ぐイスラム教の第二の聖地であるサウジアラビア国マディーナ（メディナ）市と同研究センターとが共通して目指す、人々の生活の質を向上させる社会の実現に向けて、両者の研究活動や実証実験について連携していきます。

Institute of Infrastructure Application of Ubiquitous Computing, University of Tokyo (Director: Professor Noboru Koshizuka, Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies) and Al Madinah Region Development Authority (Saudi Arabia) have signed an MOU on research and surveys in multiple fields, including smart cities, data science and spatial information systems.

The research center aims to play a central role in the world’s best education and research base for ubiquitous computing, and has been working to solve various social problems that have become apparent not only in Japan but also around the world by comprehensively researching the technologies and social systems necessary to utilize ubiquitous computing and make it a social infrastructure, and applying them to real society.

Through this initiative, we will work together on research activities and demonstration experiments with the aim of achieving a society that improves the quality of people’s lives, which is a common goal of the research center and the city of Madinah in Saudi Arabia, the second holiest city in Islam after Mecca.
