Class Introduction "Media Studio Practicum II" Program Recording

On January 26th 2018, a TV program by students was recorded at the iii Media Studio. This program was the conclusion of the course “Media Studio Practicum II”, in which Satoru Watanabe, a producer at NHK, taught us how to make a TV program from scratch.

The program we recorded was chosen from all the ideas proposed by the students. It took many hours of discussion to make the program superb. The actual program we created was named “book face”. The program was based on the concept that “book shelves represent the owner”. We designed the program to show that books show the owner’s personality, and books can be an opportunity for forming new relationships. The program was designed as follows. A woman faces three men with their faces concealed behind their book shelves. Her mission was to find out the personalities of each man and pick the one whom she wants to date.

I took part in the recording as one of the men concealed behind a book shelf. It was a very special experience placing your face behind your books, waiting for a woman whom you don’t know to guess your personality. All the students did a great job in their first experience as a cameraman, switcher or director. At the end, we watched what we had made and felt a great sense of accomplishment.
