2025年学際情報学府 留学生旅行（川越）GSII International Student Tour 2025(Kawagoe)
10月25日（土）に、川越で日帰りの留学生旅行が開催され、留学生20名と教職員6名が参加しました。当日はあいにくの雨模様となりましたが、小雨が降ったり止んだりと大雨にはならず過ごすことができました。
バスに乗って川越に移動した後、ガイドの方の案内に沿って川越氷川神社まで移動しました。神社は時節柄、七五三やお宮参り、結婚式で訪れる方々も多く、賑わう中で神社内を散策し、鯛のおみくじをひくなどして日本文化に触れながら過ごしました。鳥居の前で集合写真も撮影しました。
その後、ガイドの方の案内で川越のメインストリートや時の鐘の前を歩きながらレストランに移動しました。一番膳の芋おこわには川越ならではのさつまいもがふんだんに使用されていて、お腹いっぱいいただき、学生たちもリラックスした様子で交流を深めていました。
体験は、彫り絵ガラス体験をしました。リューターという道具を使い、ガラスの表面に好きな絵柄を彫っていきます。学生たちは好きなアニメのキャラクターや文字などを真剣な表情で彫り進め、お互いに途中経過や完成品を見せあうなど、旅の良い記念になりました。
最後は自由時間を設けましたが、仲良くなった学生同士で街歩きをしたり、お土産を購入したりと、それぞれ楽しい時間を過ごしました。
雨模様だったためか帰りは渋滞もなく、予定より早い午後5時前には東大に戻り、解散しました。学生達からは、「ガラス彫り体験が面白かった」「友達ができた」などの声が寄せられました。普段は勉学で忙しい学生たちも、今回の旅を通じて日本文化を知ったり、息抜きやネットワーク作りのきっかけなれればと思います。

On Saturday, October 25th, a day trip to Kawagoe took place for international students. Twenty international students and six faculty/staff members participated. Although the weather was unfortunately rainy, it was mostly a light drizzle that came and went, allowing the group to enjoy the day without heavy downpours.
After traveling to Kawagoe by bus, the group was guided to Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine. As it was the season, the shrine was bustling with visitors for Shichigosan (7-5-3 festival), baby blessings, and weddings. The participants explored the busy grounds, tried the unique Tai (sea bream) Omikuji (fortunes), and engaged with Japanese culture. A group photo was taken in front of the Torii gate.
Next, the guide led the group through Kawagoe’s main street and past the Toki no Kane (Time Bell) to a restaurant. They enjoyed a hearty meal of Imo Okowa (sticky rice with sweet potato) at Ichibanzen, which featured the famous Kawagoe sweet potatoes. The students appeared relaxed, enjoying the food and deepening their friendships.
The group then participated in a glass etching experience. Using a tool called a Leutor, they engraved their favorite designs onto the glass surface. Students seriously focused on carving characters from their favorite anime or various letters. They showed each other their work in progress and finished pieces, making the activity a wonderful memento of the trip.
Finally, some free time was provided, allowing students who had become friends to stroll through the streets or buy souvenirs.
Due to the rainy weather, there was no traffic congestion on the way back. The group returned to the University of Tokyo before 5 p.m., earlier than scheduled, and dispersed.
Students shared positive feedback, with comments such as, “The glass carving experience was fun” and “I made new friends.”
We hope that this trip served as an opportunity for the students, who are usually busy with their studies, to experience Japanese culture, relax, and build their social network.
