レポート：B’AI グローバル・フォーラム5周年記念シンポジウム「AIとDE&I—デジタル人道主義の未来」Report: B’AI Global Forum 5th Anniversary Symposium “AI and DE&I: The Future of Digital Humanitarianism”
2024年11月18日（月）、シンポジウム「AIとDE&I—デジタル人道主義の未来」が情報学環・福武ホールラーニングシアターにて開催されました。本シンポジウムは、2020年設立以後、AIと社会正義をテーマに多角的な活動を繰り広げてきたB’AIグローバル・フォーラムの5年間を振り返り、今後の活動の具体的なビジョンを描くために企画されました。
東京大学理事・副学長の津田敦教授は開会挨拶で、これまで東京大学とソフトバンクが連携して行ってきた産学協創プロジェクトの成果を紹介し、今後のさらなる協力に期待を寄せました。
シンポジウムの第一部では、久野愛准教授（情報学環）がモデレーターを務め、B’AIグローバル・フォーラムのディレクターを務める板津木綿子教授（情報学環）による5年間の活動紹介と2つの基調講演が行われました。基調講演では、AIと倫理・社会正義に関する分野で国際的に活躍されているアニタ・グルムルティ氏（IT for Change, Director）とステフ・ライト氏（Scottish AI Alliance, Head）より、データ産業における労働力の搾取など様々な社会的な不正義が後景に退く一方で、規模の大きいデータが真正性や客観性、正確性を保証するとみなされるデータイズムが前景化することへの力強い問題提起がなされました。
第二部、パネル討論では、科学技術を人類学の観点で研究するオオツキ・グラント・ジュン准教授（総合文化研究科）がモデレーターを務め、グルムルティ氏・ライト氏のほか、ソフトバンク株式会社のAI戦略を牽引する小齊平康子氏（同社AI戦略室担当部長）とAIの国際安全保障を専門とするヘン・イ・クァン教授（公共政策大学院）がパネリストとして登壇されました。産業界や国際政治や国際法への視点、劣悪な開発環境・限定的な教育資源への洞察が交わり、産学官民の連携やDE＆Iの文脈依存性、環境問題との関係などへの多角的な議論が行われました。
最後に、B’AIグローバル・フォーラムの創立者である林香里教授（東京大学理事・副学長）は閉会の挨拶を述べ、多様な視点から支配的な言説を問い直すことでAIのエコシステムを方向付けるビジョンやアイデアを生み出す必要性を力説しました。

On Monday, November 18, 2024, the symposium “AI and DE&I: The Future of Digital Humanitarianism” was held at the Fukutake Learning Theater. This symposium was organized to commemorate the 5th anniversary and to envision future initiatives of the B’AI Global Forum, which was established in 2020 with a focus on AI and social justice.
In the opening remarks, Atsushi Tsuda, Executive Vice President of the University of Tokyo, introduced the achievements of collaborative projects between the University of Tokyo and SoftBank and expressed hope for further cooperation in the future.
The first part of the symposium, moderated by Ai Hisano (Associate Professor, Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies), featured an introduction to the B’AI Global Forum’s activities over the past five years by Yuko Itatsu (Professor, Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies), the forum’s director, as well as two thought-provoking keynote speeches by Anita Gurumurthy (Director, IT for Change) and Steph Wright (Head, the Scottish AI Alliance). In their keynote addresses, these two internationally renowned figures in the fields of AI ethics and social justice raised critical issues regarding AI ethics and AI governance. They highlighted the growing prominence of “dataism,” which positions large-scale data as inherently authentic, objective, and accurate, overshadowing social injustices such as labor exploitation in the data industry.
The second part of the symposium was a panel discussion moderated by Grant Jun Otsuki (Associate Professor, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences), an anthropologist specializing in science and technology. The panel featured Gurumurthy and Wright, alongside Yasuko Kosaihira (Deputy Director, AI Strategy Office, SoftBank Corp.) and Heng Yee Kuang (Professor, Graduate School of Public Policy). The discussion bridged perspectives from industry, international politics, and law, providing profound insights into harsh development environments and limited educational resources. The panel engaged in multifaceted discussions on the importance of collaboration across industry, government, academia, and civil society, the contextual variations of DE&I, and its relationship with environmental issues.
In the closing remarks, Kaori Hayashi (Executive Vice President of the University of Tokyo), founder of the B’AI Global Forum, emphasized the necessity of generating visions and ideas to guide the AI ecosystem by critically reassessing dominant discourses from diverse perspectives.
