【情報学環教育部】教育部ホームカミングデイ2023Undergraduate Student Research Program Homecoming Day 2023
2023年10月21日、東大のホームカミングデーにあわせ教育部でも「情報学環教育部ホームカミングデー」を行いました。今年のプログラムは２部構成で、前半は教育部研究生による「自主ゼミ」のポスター発表、後半は教育部同窓生と現役社会人研究生の共催で「社会人研究生の過去・現在・未来」と題したトークセッションを行いました。コロナ禍のオンライン実施を経て4年ぶりの対面形式で実施することができ、古くは1952年入所の4期まで遡るOBOGの皆様、そして多数の先生方にお越しいただき、非常に活気ある学びの場となりました。
「自主ゼミ」は教育部のオリジナリティ溢れるプログラムです。研究生各々が選定したテーマに沿って5月ごろからグループで調査を行います(詳しくは、10月の自主ゼミ合宿の記事もご覧ください)。私自身は今年教育部に入学したばかりですが、週に１度の頻度でメンバーとゼミ活動を続け、インタビュー調査や文献検討を行ってきました。多様なバックグラウンドを持ったメンバーですが、自らの関心と好奇心をアカデミックに昇華させていく場が自由に用意されていることに新鮮な驚きと喜びを感じます。この日は、私たちが準備をしたポスターを前に30分も40分も、発表者や学生に加えて来場したOBOG・教員が入り混じって議論する姿がみられました。70年以上続く情報学環の良き伝統を改めて実感しました。
後半のシンポジウムでは社会人研究生をテーマに、教育部という場の貴重さについて登壇者が意見を交わしました。情報学環教育部では社会人の参加は昨今のリスキリング等の流行の前から連綿と続いてきています。筆者も社会人研究生です。何かと与えられた立場で発言をすることが普段はどうしても多くなってしまいますが、それとは真逆のアカデミックな場が素晴らしく、教育部に入学した意義を改めて感じた１日となりました。

On October 21, 2023, in conjunction with The University of Tokyo’s Homecoming Day, the Undergraduate Research Student Program of the III held its Homecoming Day event. This year’s program consisted of two parts: the first half was a poster presentation session of the “Independent research seminar”, and the second half was a talk session titled “The Past, Present, and Future of Working Undergraduate Research Program Students” co-hosted by the alumni of the program and current working students. It was the first time in four years that the seminar was held in a face-to-face format having been implemented online during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was a very lively learning opportunity, attended by alumni and alumnae, including some from the early years of the program, as well as by many professors.
The “Independent research seminar” is a program full of the originality of the Undergraduate Research Student Program. From around May, each research student conducts research in a group based on a theme of his or her own choosing (for details, please see the article on the October seminar camp). Since I entered the program this year, I have continued seminar activities with the members once a week, conducting interviews and literature reviews. Largely because the members come from diverse backgrounds, I find it refreshingly surprising and delightful that a place is freely provided for us to transcend our own interests and curiosity academically. I was reminded once again of the program’s great tradition, which has continued for more than 70 years.
During the talk session, the speakers exchanged opinions on the value of the Undergraduate Research Student Program as a place for working students. The program has had students with working experience for a long time, even before the recent trend of reskilling and the like. The author is also a working student. I usually tend to speak from a given position, but it was wonderful to be in an academic setting that was the complete opposite of that.
