Radio 5: 声のメディアの可能性を探る実践Radio 5: Exploring the Potential of Audio Storytelling
インターネット・ラジオ『Radio 5』という音声メディア実践を行っています。このプロジェクトでは、情報学環の水越伸教授と福岡女学院大学の忠聡太講師を軸に、国立台湾師範大学のエヴァ・ツァイ教授をはじめ国内外の仲間とともに、録音構成によるストーリーテリングという新しい声のメディアのかたちを作ること、またそれを研究者のみならず、学生や一般の人とも共有し、教材として活用するなど、さまざまに声のメディアの可能性を探っています。

Radio5のコンテンツには、同じ質問をして得た答えをつないだ“Voices”、 インタビューや対談を構成した“Talks”、そしてアメリカのNPRの番組に見られるaudio storytelling型の“Stories”という３つの作品群があり、日本語と英語の作品が混在しています。一般的に日本のラジオ番組やラジオドキュメンタリーは事前に構成が決められていますが、Radio5の作品はどれも音声を起点に構成しています。作品の企画、インタビューから構成と編集、最終的な作品のアップロード、そのプロモーションもRadio5関係者がすべて担っています。実はなにかと手探りですが、楽しく取り組んでいます。
パンデミックの最中ですが、この歴史に残る特異な状況を生きる私たちの現在の語りを記録することに意味があると思い、実践を続けています。私が4、5月に国内外の友人との会話を元に取り組んだ“Voices: Life Under COVID-19”シリーズは一例です。このうちマスクをめぐるエピソードで構成した作品を、後日ある大学のオンライン授業の課題として聴いてもらったところ、「ヒアリングの勉強になった」「生の声を聞きながらディスカッションができて面白かった」「音声だと感情なども自然に伝わると思った」「目が疲れないのは好都合」など、さまざまな感想をもらいました。今の声をアーカイヴすることを目指して生まれた作品ですが、教材としての汎用性も見出すことができました。
最近の“Talks”の作品には5月にニコニコ動画の歌い手の研究で学際情報学の博士号を取得したルジラット・ヴィニットポン（ギフト）さんのインタビューもあります。タイの学部生時代はマス・コミュニケーション専攻だった彼女が学府での研究に至るまでの道のりなど、論文には書かれていないエピソードを本人の声で聴くうちに、彼女の研究への関心が湧く方もいるのではないでしょうか。私たちは声のメディアが可能にする研究の記録方法や紹介のしかたがあるかもしれないとも考えています。

We are working on an internet radio project called “Radio 5” where we put together original stories with the aim to explore different forms of audio storytelling.

Unlike conventional Japanese radio programs and documentaries whose show structure is decided ahead of the recording, Radio 5 members only fix the topic of the interviews or conversations and compile their stories around what was said and discussed. This seems to inevitably change the structure of the stories and gives more power to the voices that were recorded.
As part of this project, we are also seeking ways to utilize these stories as educational materials for students and the general public. The project is led by Professor Shin Mizukoshi and Sota Chu, lecturer at Fukuoka Jogakuin University, and is in cooperation with Professor Eva Tsai of the National Taiwan Normal University and other members both in Japan and abroad.
During this pandemic, we have continued to work on compiling stories by interviewing people via zoom. These include a series of stories I compiled titled “Life Under the Pandemic” where multinational interviewees living in different countries share their experiences and views about the impact of the novel coronavirus.
Initially, the stories were compiled as an effort to archive the voices of people in this extraordinary situation, but they were put to use as online course material during the spring semester of a university and received various reactions from the students.
We will continue this experiment to develop a further understanding of the potential of audio storytelling and how it can contribute to connect the academy with the general public. Please take a listen to Radio 5 and share your thoughts with us!
