平成30年度大学院学際情報学府 秋季 学位記授与式GSII Autumn Graduation Ceremony 2018
9月14日、心配された朝方の雨も上がり、福武ホールラーニングシアターに於いて、学際情報学府の秋季学位記授与式が行われました。故郷から駆けつけたご両親、ご家族、そして友人達に見守られながら、修士課程10名、博士課程6名の修了者に、田中学府長より学位記が授与され、その後学府長と中尾専攻長より祝辞が送られました。
学府長からは、多様性の中でそれぞれのキャリアを積み重ねて行く為に、学府で身につけた様々な知識と技術で、未来に適応するのではなく、未来を恐れることなく創造していくよう、暖かくも力強いエールが送られました。専攻長からは、自身のプリンストン大学でのエピソードから、ラテン語の古い諺についてスライドも交えた「チャンスの神様」の紹介と共に、好機を逃すことのないよう、そして授与式は新しい始まりであるとして、新しい船出の出発点に立った修了生への賛辞が述べられました。
その後、修士課程修了者代表の万 山川（WAN Shanchuan）さんと、博士課程修了者代表のHamid FARHDYさんより答辞があり、いずれも学府で出会った、お世話になった人々への感謝の言葉と、これから進む新しい進路への決意などが述べられました。最後に在校生代表として、Frederic Julien Nicolas SERAPHINEさんより「今日はまた一つの冒険の始まり」であるとして、先輩を送り出す力強い賛辞が述べられました。
授与式の後もしばらく、それぞれが新しい道に進む前の懐かしい学びの場を惜しむように、晴れ晴れとした笑顔の写真撮影が続きました。全ての修了生に幸あれ。

The 2018 Autumn Graduation Ceremony of the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies was held on September 14th at Fukutake Hall Learning Theater. Heavy rain in the morning stopped by the time the ceremony started. Besides the graduates themselves, the ceremony was attended by several family members who had come especially from their home countries around Asia to witness the graduates’ great moment.
The ceremony began with the presentation of certificates to 10 master’s program graduates and 6 doctoral program graduates. This was followed by addresses from Dean Tanaka and the head of department, Prof. Nakao. In his warm and powerful address, Dean Tanaka encouraged the graduates to use the knowledge and skills they acquired at the University to create the future, not just to adapt to the future. Prof. Nakao introduced an old Latin proverb with an anecdote from his Princeton University student days about the God of Chance named Kairos, emphasizing the need to never let a good opportunity go by.
Then two graduate representatives, WAN Shanchuan (M.A.S.) and Hamid FARHADY (Ph.D.) gave short speeches in reply, expressing their thanks. Finally, as a representative of the continuing students, Frederic Julien Nicolas SERAPHINE (currently enrolled in the Ph. D program) delivered a cheerful and powerful farewell address to the graduates, using the words: “Today is just another starting date!”
After the ceremony, graduates, families and friends, including faculty members, took pictures and chatted for some time as they savored fond memories before their departure from this place of learning.
