iii Exhibition Extra was held from July 7th to 10th at the Open Studio, iii UTokyo and was attended by over 800 people. iii Exhibition is one of several practical classes given by the GSII, where students learn through practical experience how to produce works, such as media art, and how to organize exhibitions.

This was the first trial to hold an exhibition here at the Open Studio, and we benefited greatly from the equipment here, as can be seen in the photographs.

The theme of this exhibition was “SUKIMANIAC,” which contains many implications. The word “SUKIMA” in Japanese mainly means “in between” or “gap” but also has many other connotations. Additionally, there is an old Japanese word “SUKI (数寄)”, which implies that every person has their own preference. We added “MANIAC” after “SUKIMA” or “SUKI” to express each member’s unique point of view to find various kinds of gaps from the world.

You can check out our portfolios on the website, and experience the atmosphere of the exhibition on SNS.

Plans are going ahead for a larger exhibition in the autumn, possibly making use of a larger exhibition space. Up-to-date information is available on our website and other SNS services.
