いわゆる「キリシタンの世紀」と呼ばれる、1540年～1640年頃までの、日本の対外関係史（主に対ポルトガル・スペイン）と、宗教史（キリシタン）を研究しています。海域アジア史やグローバル・ヒストリーにも関心がありますが、アジアに進出したヨーロッパ勢力のインパクトを過大評価しない研究を心がけています。

My research theme is a history of foreign relations in Japan (mainly with Portugal and Spain), and religious history (Kirishitans/Christians) from 1540 to 1640, which is so-called “the Christian century in Japan”. I am interested in maritime history of Asia and global history, too. However, I am trying to develop a method to think about Asian history that does not overestimate the impact of the European forces linked with Asia.
