- Biography
Yuko Itatsu is a Professor at the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies.
She received her Ph.D. in History from the University of Southern California, where she studied as a Fulbright Scholar. Her interests are in cultural and social histories of the U.S. and Japan in the early 20th century, as well as in leisure history and discourse, particularly of social minorities.

人間が人間らしく生きている証として追い求める生きがいや充足感は、どこで得られるのか。グローバリゼーションやオートメーションによる雇用形態の多様化は、私たちの労働概念の変化だけではなく、レジャー概念の変化も意味します。社会にマイノリティとしてみなされている人々は、どこでどのような時間に充足感を得られているか。レジャー、ポピュラー・カルチャー、社会的マイノリティをキーワードにして、主としてアメリカを対象に研究しています。
最近は、人工知能の技術開発がレジャー、ポピュラー・カルチャー、そして社会にどのような影響を及ぼしうるのかにも関心を持っています。
My research interests lie in American History, particularly in the intersecting spaces of leisure, popular culture, and social minorities and how power is exerted by the stakeholders. This includes empirical studies on leisure praxis as well as rhetorical analyses on leisure.
Recently I’m also interested in artificial intelligence and the impact this technology can have on leisure, popular culture, and society writ large.
