I am a historian specializing in medieval Japan (11th–16th centuries), with a particular focus on the 14th century and the wars and social transformations of that period. My dissertation, Muromachi bakufu chihō shihai no kenkyū (A Study of the Muromachi Bakufu’s Provincial Governance), examines the evolving mechanisms of the Muromachi bakufu’s control over provinces from the 14th to the 15th centuries. More recently, my research has centered on the Kyushu Deputy Imagawa Ryōshun, whose correspondence offers vivid insights into the dynamics of 14th-century warfare.

Since joining the Historiographical Institute at the University of Tokyo in 2015, I have been engaged in the research of medieval Japanese sources and in the compilation and publication of historical sourcebooks. In recent years, I have also contributed to the management and development of the Institute’s historical databases, an experience that has sparked a growing interest in Digital Humanities from the perspective of a practicing historian.

In addition to my core research, I am also interested in the global study of Japanese history. In 2023, I co-edited Kaigai no Nihon Chūsei-shi Kenkyū (Studies of Medieval Japan Outside Japan), which explores how medieval Japanese history is approached internationally.

In 2025, I joined the IIIS/GSII as a mobile faculty member from the Historiographical Institute. While I consider myself a traditional historian, I am excited to broaden my research horizons and engage in interdisciplinary dialogue with faculty and students from diverse academic fields.
