社会の芸術フォーラムThe Art of Society Forum
「社会の芸術フォーラム」は、2015年5月、東京大学情報学環教授の北田暁大（社会学）、千葉大学教育学部准教授の神野真吾（教育学）を共同代表とし、東京大学を本拠地として組織されたものである。「社会の芸術フォーラム」の理念は、アートワールドを人文学的・社会科学的な側面から検討し、アートワールドという社会、あるいはアートワールド「と」社会の関係を問い直す。アーティストとキュレーター、批評家、研究者の相互的なプラットフォームのなかで「アートと社会の相互反映性」を領域横断的に考察し、新しい形でのアートの実践、批評言説を模索することである。
定例フォーラム部門、エキシビジョン部門、レクチャー・シリーズ部門、国際シンポジウム部門を有し、それらを統括する運営委員会が存在する。運営委員には、アーティスト、キュレーター、研究者を含む。これまでに8回のフォーラム、展覧会、2回の国際シンポジウムと22回のレクチャー・シリーズを行っている。
近年の日本におけるいわゆる「アート・プロジェクト」や「コミュニティ・アート」、「参加型アート」等の潮流のなかで、改めて社会におけるアートの機能や影響について再考する必要があるだろう。テーマは「公共性」、「自由」から「多文化主義」といったものまで幅広い議論を扱っている。フォーラムと国際シンポジウムにより、議論のプラットフォームを構築することを目指し、レクチャー・シリーズでは、議論に必要な基礎的な知識を提供する。さらにリサーチ＆エキシビジョンにおいて、数名のアーティストを招聘し、議論によって彫琢した理論を反映させた展覧会を行った。
2016年4月より、共同代表を竹田恵子、井上文雄とし、継続的に活動を続けている。2016年12月には、2015年度の活動を元にした書籍『社会の芸術／芸術という社会』がフィルムアート社より発売され、好評を博している。今後も社会と芸術の相互反映性について最新の論考を取り入れつつ、さらなる議論の発展を目指す。

The Art of Society Forum (Shakai no Geijutsu Forum) was formed in May 2015 under the joint leadership of Prof. Akihiro Kitada (sociologist) of the III (where it is based) and Assoc. Prof. Shingo Jinno (specialist in art theory) of Chiba University. Its mission is to create a new critical discourse that considers the mutual influences between art and society from the perspective of the humanities and social sciences.
The Forum has three main areas of activity: regular discussion forums, a lecture series and exhibitions. Each of these is managed by a committee composed of artists, curators and researchers.
With the recent flourishing of “art projects,” “community art” and “participatory art” in Japan, there is a need to reconsider once again the function and influence of art in society. The Forum discusses a wide range of topics, including the public sphere, multiculturalism, censorship, social inclusion/exclusion and art education. It seeks to construct a platform for debate through forums and international symposia while providing basic knowledge through its lecture series. Its research activities and exhibitions reflect the ideas developed through these discussions.
Since April 2016, the work of the Forum has continued under the joint leadership of Keiko Taketa and Fumio Inoue (both assistant professors at the III) with a commitment to further intensified discussion on the relations between art and society.
