日韓共同国際シンポジウム20周年20th Anniversary of SNU-UT International Symposium

毎年恒例の日韓国際シンポジウムが10月28日と29日、韓国ソウル大学で開催されました。情報学環とソウル大学の言論情報学科の共催で今年20周年を迎えたこのシンポジウムは、両校の研究者たちによる研究成果の報告を通じて、コミュニケーション学とカルチュラルスタディーズ分野の幅広いテーマと問題関心を共有する場を提供してきました。

今年のシンポジウムの題でもある「日韓共同国際シンポジウムの20周年を迎えて:過去、現在、そして未来」に対する特別セッションを含め、6セッション・16人発表者から構成された今年のシンポジウムでは、質的研究と量的研究を横断する多様な研究発表と討論が行われました。

特に今年は台湾国立政治大学から二人の教員たちがスペシャルゲストとして参加し、今後の学術交流における国際的な広がりの側面で新たな可能性が示されました。ソウル大学のカン・ミョング教授のキーノートスピーチの後、学術交流協定を更新する調印式が行われ、両大学の持続的な交流が再確認されました。

28日の夜と29日にはソウルの夜と昼を体験できる多彩なプログラムが設けられ、参加者たちはソウル大学の院生たちとともに、28日の夜は弘大付近街を回るライブ・クラブ・ツアーを、29日はビデオ・アートの第一人者ナムジュン・バイクの展示会とソウル都城ツアーを行い、交流と親睦を図る楽しい時間を過ごしました。

The 2016 SNU-UT Symposium
On October 28-29, 2016, the SNU-UT International Symposium was held in IBK Communication Center, Seoul National University. The symposium is an annual academic exchange which has been hosted alternately by Seoul National University (SNU) and the University of Tokyo (UT) since 1996. Composed of six panels and 16 presenters, this year’s symposium was entitled “20th Anniversary of SNU-UT International Symposium: Past, Present, and Future”. Professor Osamu Sakura (UT), Professor Chul-joo Lee (SNU), Professor Shin Mizukoshi (UT) presented in a special session on shaping the past and the present of this symposium, and emphasizing the future friendship between two universities.

In addition to 12 graduate students and four faculty presenters from the Department of Communication at Seoul National University and the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies at the University of Tokyo, Professor Chiung-wen Julia Hsu and Professor Tsung-Jen Shih of National Chengchi University (NCU) in Taiwan participated as special guests and chair persons for graduate students’ sessions. The panels and presentations dealt with various subjects on communications and cultural studies issues in South Korea and Japan across qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

Renewal of Academic Exchange Agreement
After the key note speech by Professor Myung-koo Kang (SNU), SNU and UT have signed the renewal of academic exchange agreement. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of this highly successful symposium, Dean Osamu Sakura exchanged the formal agreement with Professor Sug-min Youn, on behalf of Seoul National University. In recognition of common interest in developing bilateral relations, the agreement pledge to promote continuous academic exchange and cooperation in research and education between two universities. Also, through the participation from NCU, new possibilities were opened up in this long-running academic exchange.

Excursion: Day and Night in Old and Present Seoul
After the welcome dinner at SNU in the evening of October 28, participants moved to Hongdae area which is one of the passionate cultural districts in Seoul, and experienced a live club tour. The next day morning, they enjoyed an exhibition of Paik Nam-june, a world-renowned innovative artist, at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) recently built by Zaha Hadid. In the afternoon, they walked along Hanyangdoseong, the old Seoul’s castle walls, from Dongdaemun to Heahwa. These excursion programs showed participants from UT and NCU remarkable snapshots of day and night in old and present Seoul.
