Programs and Courses
The Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies contains a single academic department (Dept. of Interdisciplinary Information Studies). The purpose of this department is to help fulfill society’s need for highly skilled personnel possessing not only advanced specialized knowledge but also the broad perspective encouraged by the inherently interdisciplinary nature of information studies. Within the department, there are five different courses/programs each of which retains its own identity while also maintaining close ties with the others.
- This course nurtures skills for the analysis of social and cultural phenomena related to information, media and communications both for academic research and for practical social applications. It seeks to produce scholars who can contribute to the further development of socio-information and communication studies.

- This course seeks a restructuring of the cultural and human sciences from the perspective of information studies transcending the divide between natural sciences and humanities/social science. It trains students to become researchers and practitioners who will contribute either theoretically or practically to the creation of a new interdisciplinary information studies.

- This course deepens students' knowledge of the advanced technological sciences that lie at the foundation of today's information environment while retaining an interdisciplinary perspective. Its aim is to produce scholars and artists endowed with a broad perspective who can open up new frontiers of the information sciences through partnerships with other fields of knowledge.

- This program offers intensive graduate level education designed to foster analytical strength and insight into Asian societies and international relations, at a time when information and communication technology is having an increasingly profound impact on the region. All instruction is conducted in English, and the academic year at ITASIA begins in October.

- This is a unique 2-year program designed to provide systematic training in information studies for students wishing to learn about information, media and communications.
Basic instruction is provided for people wishing to work in the various fields of journalism, including newspapers, broadcasting and publishing, as well as for all those with an interest in the academic study of mass media, communications, socio-information and interdisciplinary information studies.
